Spot Artist Extraordinaire: Amy Zhong
There can NEVER be too many cuddly puppies, and our September/October Spot Artist Extraordinaire, Amy Zhong, definitely agrees.
1. Why did you choose to draw the (ADORABLE) puppies in this month's spot art?
For a start, I love love LOVEEE dogs. I find that they are the cutest little creatures in the world! I can guarantee you that if you try to talk to me as we walk down a block in the city, I will probably have to stop you at least twice so I can point out and aw over a dog in the distance. Also, I have a Chihuahua/Shih Tzu mix at home named Jamie, whom I love to death, and that's who I drew!
2. How did you decide to become an artist? What do you like best about creating art?
I've been drawing for as long as I can remember, but I think my initial reason for pursuing the arts started when my dad used to draw me super realistic horses. I've been drawing ever since. I personally prefer traditional drawing over digital because I love the sound and feeling of a pen or pencil gliding across paper.
All forms of art are beautiful; I just relate more to pencil/ink sketches.
3. Describe an ideal Saturday afternoon.
I have little hobbies that I pick up sporadically. Lately I've been sewing a lot, but an ideal Saturday afternoon can range from going to the museum, experimenting with simple baking, reading, sketching, or hanging out with friends outside in the sun.
4. Say something controversial about the art world!
Artist Resale Rights.
5. If you could travel anywhere in the world this weekend, where would you go?
If I could bring my company of choice and had everything paid for, I'd love to visit Dubai.
6. If you could have dinner with one person, dead or alive, who would it be--& what would you eat?
This has always been a hard question for me, because I feel like I should name some famous person whom I idolize. Then I imagine what the actual experience of eating with that person would be like and I get nervous. What would we talk about? What do I say? What if he/she finds me super awkward? I'd rather save myself the humiliation and eat with family or one of my best friends. With good company, any food is delicious.
Thanks, Amy! Now we want to go home and eat delicious baked goods with our loved ones and a puppy or two.
